Second ride in the bag!

Today I went for my second ride. It was touch and go due to the weather but made a quick decision at 11am to go out with Craig and attempt a 10km ride.  I had been looking forward to getting out again and wasn't phased by the falling off incident on Wednesday. Can't say the same about my nether regions though! They still aren't happy with me since last week and I winced as I got back on the bike again but I was soon off and feeling a lot more confident this time! I didn't realise this photo was being taken but I am glad Craig took a couple of photos of me! This is on one of the climbs at the beginning of the route! I am happy to say I managed the whole route with no falling off incidents and managed over 10km with a few little climbs too!  Few observations from today's ride 1. I felt more confident and stable on the bike. 2. I still fear the cars and utter profanities when they are approaching.  3. I don't feel I can go solo yet and really appreciat

First ride done!

Well I did it, in my own style!!!! I managed to do almost 6 miles and gosh a few hills and I only fell off once, right into a bush of nettles at the side of the road, but all is good and I actually enjoyed it (well not the falling off part!)  Here I am in the said Lycra and all smiley before I left the flat! All I will say is that its a lot harder than it looks and I didn't realise how scared I would be of the traffic, every time I heard a car or (a very patient) Craig said "theres a car coming" I found myself panicking inside and wobbling a little on the bike. Hoping this will ease up the more I do it and the confidence I gain.   Hills are hard, I knew they would be but I didnt realise that coming down hills would be hard, I wasn't prepared for that. There are a lot of them round here and I was a little fearful of coming down steep hills and sometimes found it hard to brake and not panic! Anyway it's not all doom and gloom, not by a long shot. Today I bought a bike!!!!

Yep you read that right, today, the 24th day of July 2019 I bought a lovely shiny new road bike!!!! I have never ridden a road bike before (other than maybe having a go on the next door neighbours son's bike when I was about 11) but over the last year I have seen both the physical and mental health benefits cycling can have first hand, through my partner Craig who cycles 3 times a week. It's been a real turning point in his life and made a huge difference to his physical and mental wellbeing and after I tried running for 5 weeks (and giving up after a dodgy hip) I decided I was going to bite the bullet and buy a bike and sample a bit of the wellbeing for myself! Having stalked Ebay and Facebook marketplace for the last few weeks and also checking out various cycle specialist websites I found my new baby on Ebay and made a trip over to Halifax to have a look!! I think it was probably the fastest purchase made in the history of the shop and within 7 minutes a lovely youn
